WHAT'S YOUR NEXT MOVE?

Updated: Nov 25, 2023

KEY VERSE : Ruth 1 vs 7 NIV

With her two daughters-in-law she left the place where she had been living and set out on the road that would take them back to the land of Judah.

It is safe to say that life is filled with choices. There is often always a decision to be made and the book of Ruth cosigns that. We can never be certain where the decision made will take us, however, we make it hoping for the very best and most favorable outcome.

SUMMARY

Naomi was married to Elimelech, who made the decision to leave the land of Bethlehem-Judah with their two sons due to a famine in the land. This journey brought them into the country of Moab. Elimelech eventually died, leaving Naomi a widow.

Her sons then found wives amongst the Moabite women, but after 10 years they also died.

THOUGHTS

Naomi was not just left without her husband, but her sons were also taken from her. I can only imagine the pain and sorrow that must've filled her heart in that moment. How shattered were the pieces of her heart. In the midst of that, she was away from home.

What I appreciate most, is the fact that in the midst of all the pain and loss she had experienced, she remained conscious enough to make a calculated decision.

She chose to return home!

Naomi heard how the Lord had visited his people by giving them bread. God's favor and presence had returned to Bethlehem. When she made the decision to return home, she would be returning to dwell amongst those that actually served, and Knew her God. She returned to Hope, and a Future.

After she returned home, her daughter-in-law, Ruth, found favor in the eyes of Boaz, a very wealthy man, who was also related to Naomi's late husband. Boaz ended up taking Ruth to be his wife, and they gave birth to a son called Obed, who would be the grandfather of David, King of Israel, known to be a man after God's own heart, and whom God used mightily to protect, prosper, and lead his people.

CONCLUSION

Hope seems distant, whenever you are looking through the lens of hopelessness. However, there is life on the other side of pain, sorrow, brokenness and disaster. You can live again, you can smile again, and others can be blessed through you. There is hope, and peace on the other side - there is still life. It just might take you making the decision to leave your current "place" in order to attain it...

What is you're next move?

With Love, Jhenelle Morgan
